With the C Grade having a bye today, the B Grade came out and had a 15 goal win over Eastern Park. The A grade kicked 25.17 in defeating Eastern Park 16.10 by 61 points.

We should hear the club song sung with gusto this evening.

Injury Update

Simon Maddern is out of hospital after having a plate and 4 screws inserted into his broken arm. Although still in a lot of pain, Simon or “Chalkie” as he is now known (and not just because he is a school teacher) managed a smile for the camera when he called into the Club on Thursday night. Simon has to avoid all contact sport for 12 months but his wife informed me that won’t get him out of his housework duties – he still has one good arm. Tough task master!!

Of the other injuries from last week’s debacle, Deke Smith’s adductor is coming along slowly and he is on the indefinate list, as is Jake Marano, who my spies tell me is facing a knee reconstruction. Buzza McDowell strained both hammies last week and whilst he is confident of making an early return, it is believed the injury is back related and make take a little longer than the optomistic Buz has predicted.

We play away again this Saturday against Eastern Park. Changes to last weeks A Grade side are as follows:

Outs: N.McDowell ( hamstring ) S.Maddern ( broken arm ) D.Smith ( adductor muscle ) J.Marano ( ACL ) S.Tylor ( omitted ).

Another Away Loss – Old Iggies Storm Home

After a solid first half of football against Old Ignatians yesterday, the home side came out after half time and over ran an injury ravaged Port District.

Leading by 6 goals at half time, it looked as though we were headed for a comfortable victory, but as the injuries began to take their toll our chances of victory slipped away.

The worst of the injuries was suffered by Simon Maddern ( pictured below ) who broke his arm in two places, just below the elbow. Simon will undergo an operation in a day or so to repair the damage, and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

The Reserves also went down, by 29 points, and the C Grade lost to Adelaide Lutheran by 3 points after being 3 goals up with 8 minutes to play.

All in all, not a good day for the Club, but as they say in the classics, there’s another game next week

Promising Star – Injury Update

Promising youngster Alex Miller 18, (pictured) is still out with a broken hand, suffered in the first game against Portland. After dashing form in the pre season games, Alex was looking forward to establishing himself as a regular A Grader in his first season of Senior Footy, but the injury has forced him to cool his heels on the sidelines.

The latest update on the injury indicates that the plaster could be removed in a week or so and then a further evaluation will be made on a return to competitive football. Everyone at the Club is wishing Alex a speedy return to an on field role.

After last weeks disappointing loss to Tea Tree Gully, the boys bounced back with a dominating performance against the Modbury Hawks. The win was even more meritorious in the fact that the Hawkers beat the Gullies earlier in round 2. In a fairly even first quarter, Daniel Thomas and Reed Beeching dominated in the ruck and centre half forward respectively. Despite a fair amount of ball handling errors by both sides, the District boys started to assert their superiority and finally pulled away for a commanding victory. Aaron Christmann got the nod as BOG for a great 4 quarter effort,closely followed by Simon Maddern in defense and “Bubbles” Johncock with his 5 goals and heavy body work in the packs.

IMX Supports Grass Roots Footy & Port District

IMX Resources have jumped on as a sponsor of the Port District Football Club supporting grass roots footy not only in Port Adelaide area but also closer to their home base in Cooper Pedy with support for the Cooper Pedy Saints Football Club who play in the Far North Football League. IMX resources are also involved with Port Power and their End Hunger – Foodbank Program.

Part of a recent interview with Lee Whitehorn was published in IMX’s Quarterly Newsletter (see page 6) in relation to their support for grass roots footy in South Australia and in particular Port District.

IMX Resources commenced exporting iron ore through Outer Harbor using the environmentally friendly half height shipping container system which operates in conjunction with dust suppression misting system eliminating any dust emissions. To date IMX have exported in excess of 2 million tonnes of iron ore through Port Adelaide.

Junior Club Seasons Launch

With so many new faces at the club the Junior’s have organised a function to kick off the season and introduce some of the new parents to the club. The launch is planned for the 27th April starting at 7.00PM with live music (Pulse) and a light supper provided. We also have numerous major door prizes planned for the night.
