It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of former great, Life Member and club administrator Kevin Salvemini. Kevin played for both Semaphore Central and Port Adelaide (35 games) including winning the 1947 McCallum Medal for the Best & Fairest in the SANFL Under 17 competition. Kevin was also a Life Member of the Port Adelaide Football Club.
In the early 1950’s Kevin was forced out of the Port Adelaide side with an ankle injury and returned to Semaphore Central and played for a further 8 years, winning 2 Premierships (1956 & 1959) and representing the State SAAFL team on three occasions (1950, 1958 & 1959). Kevin also acted as Semaphore Central Treasurer for a period of time in the early 1960’s.
This year on the occasion of our annual Heritage Day Match the “Best Ever Team” was selected for Semaphore Central – and Kevin was chosen in this side – playing in the centre.
Kevin was also a well known and respected identity around Port Adelaide working in both the wool and shipping industry for over 40 years.
The club would like to pass on their condolences to Kevin’s wife Rhonda and to daughter Susan for their loss.
As a mark of respect the Port District A Grade side will be wearing black arm bands on Saturday in their match against Prince Alfred Old Collegians.
